Weaving

Rigid Heddle Weaving

A great introduction to weaving.  You learn the basic warping and weaving techniques using a simple, small, portable loom.  Weaving is a great way to use up those odd balls in your stash, plus it's much faster than knitting.  Skills learned in this class are a good foundation for the four shaft class.  Includes use of loom in class.

Four Shaft Weaving

Class is designed to be an intensive, comprehensive learning experience that takes you through the entire process of weaving.  You will design, calculate your yarn needs, dress the loom, weave and finish at least two projects during the workshop.  Includes use of loom in class.

Inkle Weaving

Inkle weaving is a simple technique to create woven bands, suitable for belts, straps and ties.

Drafting for Weaving: the Basics

Learning how to read and write drafts will unlock the knowledge of woven structures.  These drafts have been written down in a form of shorthand for centuries.  Once you understand drafting, it will open the door to countless patterns.  You will be working with graph paper and pencil, but we will also discuss computer technology and how it can speed up the process.

Analyzing the Fabric to find the Draft

Once you understand drafting, you can take a fabric swatch, analyze it row by row and determine how to reproduce it.  We will take a hand woven swatch, and in the step-by-step deconstruction of it, find the instructions it holds.   Pre-Requisite: Drafting for Weaving

Warping Workshop, Front to Back

This is a step-by-step class on how to calculate, wind the warp and dress the loom and is intended as a refresher.  The front to back method is suitable for short warps, requires less equipment and is easy for beginners.  This is now a hands on class.  You will actually put on a short warp and weave a swatch.
